About the Item

This is a very fine and elegant flame mahogany verge bracket clock by Robert Fleetwood who worked in Abchurch Lane from 1763 and died, circa 1794. This clock would date around 1780. The inverted bell top case is surmounted by a brass carrying handle and is veneered in the finest mahogany veneers on all sides which have patinated to the most wonderful colour . The front and side glasses are highlighted with brass mouldings with pierced brass fretts Four gilt acorn finials sit on each corner. The 7 inch brass silvered and engraved dial is signed by the maker with his full address and there is a strike silence lever arch spelt in Galician indicated that the clock was originally made for a Spanish client . I particularly like the shape of dial which was used by Mudge and Dutton. The 5 pillar double fusee movement retains its original verge escapement and has a beautifully engraved back plate depicting scrolls and foliage It strikes the hours on a bell and has a pull cord repeat facility . . It is in perfect working order. As can be seen from the images this clock is in excellent condition throughout and is ready to be displayed in the home.The case has a good shine and is in superb condition . It will delight the most discerning client. ?This clock is quite a compact size being is 19 inches tall (handle up). The width is 11 3/8 inches and the depth 7 3/4 measured to the edge of the feet.
