About the Item

A refined, large-scale temple clock. The clock features a white statuary marble frame, decorated with black Belgian marble columns and finely gilded lost-wax cast bronze partitions. The decorations recall the classical style, with small vases, floral, geometric, phytomorphic, and figurative motifs. The dial opens and features Arabic numerals, gilded bronze hands, and the signature "Lépine Paris," attributable to the clockmaker. The original, working mechanism features a silk thread suspension and a weekly winding mechanism, chiming the hours and half-hours. This is a clock of great taste and refinement, capable of elegantly furnishing any space. French manufacture from the Directoire period, around the end of the 18th century.
