This is a fine ebonised English bracket / mantel (fireplace) clock of small size made by the eminent maker Stephen Rimbault dating from the Georgian period , circa 1770 Stephen Rimbault was one of the finest clockmakers of his generation and worked from 1744 to 1778 at premises on Great St Andrews Street, London The contrasting silvered and engraved 4 7/8th inch brass dial which is signed by the maker.The finely pierced steel hands are original The inverted bell top case is surmounted by a brass carrying handle. The clock stands on bracket feet The glazed rear door opens to reveal a substantial 8 day duration time only fusee movement with 5 knopped pillars and verge escapement. The backplate is border engraved Please note the movement is in working order but shown unrestored .This this will be professionally serviced prior to sale by a member of the Worshipful company of clockmakers prior to sale. This clock being is 13 3/4inches tall (handle down). The width is 8 inches and the depth 6 1/2 inches. This clock is in excellent condition , the case having been restored by a master craftsman Like all antiques there are the odd age related marks as can be expected on any item of this age but I am certain that the most discerning client will not be disappointed. The dial can be re-silvered and the brass polished at the buyers request . Personally I love the patination exactly as it is .
