V&A Marie-Antoinette Mantel Clock – Sèvres Style Porcelain Gilt Bronze, Sunburst Swag Decoration, 39cm An impressive Sèvres-style porcelain mantel clock, designed in homage to the grandeur of Marie-Antoinette and the lavish artistry of 18th century French decorative arts. Produced for the Victoria Albert Museum collection, this exquisite clock is a faithful reproduction of royal French style, blending deep cobalt blue porcelain with finely detailed gilt metal mounts. The case is richly decorated with beaded borders, laurel swags, and floral garlands, all framed within a lyre-shaped body crowned by a striking sunburst mask mount in the form of Apollo, a symbol often associated with Louis XIV and later adopted in Marie-Antoinette’s decorative commissions. The circular dial, surrounded by a gilt bezel with jewelled detail, features Roman numerals and delicate floral motifs, further enhancing its opulent character. Standing 39 cm high, this clock represents both an elegant statement piece and a tribute to French Neoclassical design.
