Late 19th Century Circa 1880 From our Silver collection, we are delighted to introduce this superb Silver Plated Novelty Boat Inkstand Desk Set. The Desk Set of novelty form modelled as a classic sailing rowboat with realistic hinged rear rudder, dugout hull and oars. The Desk Set is raised upon a black ebonised base with brass turned feet and turned arms holding the boat up in the air. The interior of the boat has been fitted with a pair of inkwells, two lidded compartments for spare nibs and accessories and two dip pens in the form of the oars. The boat is finished to an extremely high quality with ropework lids and simulated anchor rope points to both the bow and stern. The stand can be removed from the boat and is only resting on the original custom made base. The Silver Plated Novelty Boat Inkstand Desk Set dates to the late 19th century during the Victorian period circa 1880. Reference Mark Goodger 25th Anniversary Catalogue Page 44 Silver Plate refers to a method of applying a thin layer of silver to a base metal such as brass. Therefore it refers to an item which is not solid silver but plated to the outer coating. Victorian, an era of British History corresponding approximately with the reign of Queen Victoria from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901 however, there are arguments stating that the Victorian era is actually from 1820 until 1914 proceeded by Georgian era and followed by the Edwardian era.

By Hunt and Roskell From our Vanity Box collection, we are delighted to offer this Coromandel Silver Gilt Vanity Box by Hunt and Roskell. The Vanity Box of rectangular shape with brass edging veneered in exotic Coromandel with a vacant initial plaque. The front and lid of the box feature brass stringing framing the outer perimeter with a barrel shaped escutcheon to the front. The exterior is finished with twin brass handles, one to each side with shaped accents and ball inlays. The interior of the Vanity Box is lined in royal blue velvet with a ruched inner lid containing a rear compartment holding a free standing mirror and storage for letters. The Vanity Box houses fourteen cut glass jars with engine turned sliver gilt Sterling Silver lids with vacant initial plaques to the centre of each jar. The Silver is hallmarked London, Sterling Silver by Charles Rawlings & William Summers and is dated 1846. To the centre of the top tray there is a rectangular removable tool pad containing various vanity tools. The top tray is removable via the two metal loop tabs to each side, located beneath the tray is a second tray with multiple partitions for jewellery, rings and or cufflinks.The second jewellery tray can be removed to access a larger storage area in the base. The rear of the Vanity Box is partitioned and contains five larger glass jars and an extremely rare silver gilt cup with a lined cushion for the glass jar which sits inside. The interior of the box is finished with a Bramah lock signed on the lock plate J.Bramah, 124 Piccadilly. The Vanity Box comes with its original fitted leather case with full leather straps and dates to the middle of the 19th century during latter years of the Victorian period and the reign of Queen Victoria dated 1846.
