About the Item
Add a touch of classic French charm to your writing desk with this elegant ceramic inkwell. Crafted in France circa 1880, the cartouche-shaped faience piece features intricate hand painted decoration in a traditional blue and white palette reminiscent of Delftware. The center medallion depicts a sepia-toned harbor scene with sailboats and a country farmhouse, surrounded by floral and foliate motifs and delicately ribbed detailing along the edges. The dual wells are framed by ornate scrollwork and pierced designs, giving the piece a balanced Rococo flair. This refined vide-poche or inkstand is both decorative and functional, perfect for holding pens or small desk accessories. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a soft, aged patina and subtle crackle glaze.
