About the Item

Beautiful heart shaped faience inkwell by the french artist Henri Delcourt. Monogrammed at the bottom " HDV". One tint cup and three holes for feather pens. Faiences are open-pored sintered earthenware whose red-brownish, absorbent body is covered with a glaze. An essential component of the glaze is tin. Faiences are usually painted blue or multi-coloured. The name faience is derived from the Italian city of Faenza. The French name faience is a sub-range of the ceramics produced there by artisans. Similar inkwells can be found in the literature: "Encriers Ecritoires - Francois Podevin-Bauduin", page 110 page 112.
