About the Item

More information coming soon… Hand-carved in France, circa 1890, this Black Forest inkwell is incredibly detailed with motifs of oak leaves and a pair of birds. The two birds (a fledgling and an adult) are perched on a segment of an oak tree branch, with the carving also functioning as a flip-top lid for a hidden, oval compartment. Two lobed glass receptacles are housed in root balls, while the tray is surrounded by sprigs of the oak tree, one with a cluster of acorns.
