An Exceptionally Fine Quality English Well Figured Solid grained Mahogany Officers Campaign Style Traveling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and unusually large size. First quarter of the Nineteenth Century. This Slope is an impressive just 16” wide! The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior complete with its later tooled stunning red Leather writing surface with actual gold leaf incredibly lavish tooled decoration, also features two secret drawers, see images. The rectangular flat top lid with central brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with brass strung inlaid detailing, the main carcass with similar detailing. The baise underneath has been replaced which is nicely done. This offering is a truly stunning piece. Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich dark colour, back view is not staining but part of the natural graining of the mahogany. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock and key are present but key does not activate lock, crystal ink bottle is of a later period, nice original firm hinges. Height: 6.25” (15.5cm). Width: (an impressive) 16” (40.5cm). An exceptionally fine quality example of a Lady’s or Gentleman’s English Regency Period polished brass mounted well figured Rosewood inlaid Boulle Style Jewellery or Sewing Casket or Table Box made during the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century, of English origin. Raised on its original bun feet, the quality of this item is firmly attributed to furniture makers Gillows of Lancaster. The rectangular form with hinged lid opening to reveal its original yellow silk lined interior, complete with lift out sectional tray. This exquisite casket is raised on four generous beaded bun supports. Condition: Good condition with nice patination, no losses to brass inlays. Lock is present and working, lacking key. Some losses to edgings of lift-out tray, overall a wonderful item in good condition. Height: (entire closed) 5.5" (14cm). Width: (at front) 10” (25.5cm). Depth: 7.25” (18.5cm).
