About the Item

Art-Déco inkwell depicting globe mounted on polished Portoro marble base. Earth globe with the names of the continents and seas written in French, cast in aluminum with embossed continents colored brown while seas and oceans are emerald green, the sphere is hollow inside to make room for a small glass inkwell, a small chrome-plated brass plane is placed as a handle on the lid closing the inkwell. Portoro marble base or Portovenere marble, is a variety of fine black limestone from the Gulf of La Spezia, its name comes from the Italian translation of the French term porte d'or, also called Giada di Portovenere. French manufacture of the 1930s. Good condition small weld hinge lid inkwell, signs of wear. Measures 18x13.8x14 cm - inches7.1x5.9x5.5, globe diameter cm9 - 3.6 inches. The last photo is the gift box.
