Inkwell with Integrated Pump Mechanism

Description:
This French inkwell from around 1900 is distinguished by its technically sophisticated construction. The cylindrical body is made of nickel-plated metal and rests on a flat ring base. Its central feature is a finely crafted knurled screw on the top: when turned, it raises an internal porcelain cylinder via a threaded mechanism, which pushes the ink upwards and out through a small opening. This system allows for a controlled release of ink – likely used for corrections or copying work.
The top of the inkwell is stamped "ENGRIER POMPE", a reference to the integrated pump system. The engraving "A TE BOCQUET" also appears, which is most likely the name of the manufacturer.
Additional Information:
In the second half of the 19th century, increasingly refined and technically advanced desk accessories were developed to meet the evolving needs of a modern office culture. Integrated mechanisms such as pumps, valves or drip regulators were typical of this innovative period.
