About the Item

A French pair of Champlevé enamel inkwells from the 19th century, created in the opulent Napoleon III style: - A 19th century French inkwell in Champlevé enamel and bronze, mounted on an integrated tray with pen holders, in the Napoleon III style. The inkwell is crafted in champlevé enamel — a labor-intensive technique where colorful enamel is fused into engraved bronze recesses. Motifs in blue, turquoise, red and yellow wrap the urn-shaped inkwell and its domed lid, all accented with gilded detailing. The bronze tray, with raised foliate borders and two handles, supports the inkwell and includes a curved pen holder. It stands on small feet. Dimensions: Width: 8,07 in (20,5 cm) Depth: 6,7 in (17 cm) Height: aprox 3,54 in (9 cm) Base height: 1,18 in (3 cm - A French Champlevé enamel inkwell from the 19th century, created in the opulent Napoleon III style. Crafted from gilded bronze with finely detailed polychrome enamel in shades of turquoise, deep blue, red, yellow, and gold, the inkwell features a hinged lid and a scalloped base with Rococo-inspired curves. The Champlevé technique — in which enamel is applied into engraved recesses in the metal — results in a jewel-like surface full of intricate patterning and brilliant color. Dimensions: Height: 2.76 in (7 cm) Width: 3.94 in (10 cm) Depth: 3.55 in (9 cm) These inkwells would make a superb addition to collections of Napoleon III decorative arts, writing instruments, or fine French bronzes. Take into account that the colors on the items may vary depending on the type of lighting and the type of screen from which you see the images.
