About the Item

In the early 1900s, document boxes in the shape of ledgers or books were increasingly popular. Made of wood or more increasingly popular paperboard, they were a clever and stylish way to store documents or hidden treasures in offices and banks and frequently made appearances on bookshelves throughout the world. This set of TWO document boxes is a prime example of the craftsmanship of this simple storage solution. Decorated with orange, yellow marble paper, and blue strings, they are early 20th century, no doubt used as a filing system with corresponding labels. Italian in origin, these boxes are beautiful one-of-a-kind display pieces to adorn the modern bookshelf or office space, continuing the tradition of clever design and chic execution.
