About the Item

A modernist-style sea lion paperweight, crafted in the 1960s by Swedish glassmaker Folke Walving. Made from clear, sparkling lead crystal, the sculptural paperweight features a simple, curved body with subtle, impressed facial details and is crowned by a crystal ball delicately balanced on the sea lion’s nose. A wonderful example of mid-century modern Swedish style, this glass piece reflects the simplicity and craftsmanship of vintage Scandinavian glass art Hand-etched with Walving’s signature and a serial number on the finely polished base, it stands 14 cm tall, with a depth of 8.5 cm and a width of 3.5 cm. This collectible glass paperweight lends itself to display as an objet d’art or can be used as intended, as a functional paperweight. Minor age-related wear is present on the sphere and body, but overall, it remains in very good condition considering its age and use

Murano Neodymium Sommerso Glass Shell, Flavio Poli for Seguso, Italy, 1960s
By Seguso Vetri d Arte, Flavio Poli
Located in Glasgow, GB
A collectible Murano glass conch shell, attributed to the work of Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, crafted in Italy during the 1960s. This decorative shell exemplifies Poli’s mastery of the sommerso technique—a hallmark of mid-century Murano glass, where translucent layers of coloured glass are submerged within one another to create rich tonal depth. Shaped as a spiral conch shell, the piece features rare neodymium-infused sommerso glass. Its purple base subtly shifts to blue under different lighting conditions—a distinctive property of neodymium—and is balanced by a soft pink interior at the shell’s opening. This optical variation makes it a dynamic object under natural and artificial light, characteristic of collectible Murano neodymium...
