Tom Philabaum received a B.A. in Art and Education from Southern Illinois University in 1969, and then joined the innovative Glass Program at the University of Wisconsin studying under Harvey Littleton. He completed a Master’s degree in 1973 before moving to Tucson, where he built his own glass-blowing studio, and earned an M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Arizona. He has been a working artist since that time, as well as starting Philabaum Glass Gallery in 1982, where he has curated exhibitions ever since.

Triangular faceted vase features a graphic pattern of ruby red, white, and dichroic glass encased in clear glass layers in sommerso technique. The body of the vase is cut and polished in triangular shape, exposing complex, colorful core; the subtle sheen of dichroic glass adds complexity and visual interest to a reserved color scheme.
The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; this rare, hard to find example of American studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass, art collector, or modern design enthusiast.
Jon Kuhn is one of the foremost glass artists in his field, creating highly intricate architectural glass art sculpture that has won world-wide acclaim. He received BFA from Washburn University in 1974, MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1978, and Honorary DFA from Washburn University in 2006. Jon Kuhn early work was done in molten glass, but currently he works in cold glass that is cut, polished, and fused, resulting in sculptures that take in surrounding light, then reflects and refracts it back; they appear to change color and radiance when viewed from different angles and lighting. Kuhn creates cold glass art in a variety of shapes and forms, but he is perhaps best known for his glass cubes which contain a colorful glass interior cased in clear glass. Set of two splendid Pulegoso vase. One round and the other tall. The round is lighter and the tall darker tone of mustard.
Perfectly executed Pulegoso finish. This is Murano Crucible Pulegoso. The mouth has a rim with external gold leaf difficult to notice because it does not contrast with the background. Just magnificent and rare set.
At first I believed, because of the round shape, that Bisazza was dovetailing Carlo Scarpa original round shape from the 1930s. When I was able to see the pieces and see the year, then all came clear. In the second part of the 1980s there was a re-discover in Interior design of the Native American arts. In particular, the Navaho products. As Carlo Scarpa took his inspiration from Japanese shapes, here Bisazza translated in glass the Navaho pottery art. Here the reason for a hearty color, these orange toned Puligoso is part of the Seguso tradition. Colors that are not in high fashion.
This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi.

Beautiful, and large, vintage Murano hand blown Sommerso light blue over cobalt blue Italian art glass giraffe figure sculpture. The piece is documented to the Salviati company, circa 1960s. It is published in "The Glass Ark" book on Murano glass animals. The piece has a well detailed head, with floppy ears and "ossicones" (the parts that look like horns on the head). The body itself is very minimalistic and streamline. The giraffe is also made with some Uranium / UV reactive glass, as It glows neon green under a black light (see photo).
