Jacques Blin French Ceramic Artist Scrafitto Decorated Large Elongated Coupe
By Jacques Blin
Located in Chicago, IL
Jacques Blin French ceramic artist very large elongated dish with iconic drawings. Though he started working in the 1940s, making impressive use of slip casting, cutting edge modeling techniques, and wheel throwing, Blin did not make his passion a profession until abandoning an incipient engineering career in the early 1950s. In 1954, Blin opened his first ceramic atelier, exhibiting his work throughout the decade in group shows and the Maison de la Chimie. By 1960 he was exhibiting at both the Salon des Céramistes et des Métiers d’arts de France and the Salon des Métiers d’art à la Porte de Versailles. During the early 1960s Blin developed a new technique with Jean Rustin, etching on his clay creations before firing, adding to these designs later with glaze and oxides. With these steps he improved upon the execution of the semi-abstract imagery by which his work is today recognized—monochromatic images of stylized people, crops, and beasts right out of the cave paintings of his native France, or the mythic tales portrayed in unearthed Greek pottery. He created these beautiful images on cloudy monochromatic backgrounds often in shades of blue as shown here. Throughout the 1960s he presented works at the Salon des artists Décorateurs and Salon des Tuileries the Prague Exposition Internationale de la Céramique Contemporaine, where he won the gold medal in 1962. In 1966 he won the silver medal at the Société des Artistes Français. Marking somewhat of a leap in the evolution of man, writing appeared in agricultural societies in response to the needs of commerce and urbanisation. Blin's work retains an abstract form of expression. It includes geometric and figurative symbols in tables of lines and columns. It classifies, combines and archives objects such as animals, plants, human heads, and geometric forms. The effect is one of organisation of thoughts. These pictograms or "ideograms" are used as a universal language, bringing the real and imaginary worlds closer together. Among the recurring symbols, birds are the ones that feature most often and are found in conjunction with the plant symbols of leaves and trees. Card suits (spades...

Early 20th Century Art Deco Gilt Bronze Sculpture "Isis" by Claire Colinet
By Claire Colinet
Located in London, GB
An exquisite early 20th Century French Art Deco gilt bronze figure of a young female dancer seated upon a shawl that she is lifting either side of her. The surface decorated with enamel painted ancient Egyptian design, exhibiting excellent colour and detail. Raised on a marble base and signed Cl.J.R.Colinet ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Height: 42 cm Width: 56 cm Depth: 21 cm Condition: Excellent Original Condition Circa: 1925 Materials: Bronze & Marble Book Ref: Art Deco & Other Figures by Bryan Catley Page: 117 SKU: 9176 ABOUT Colinet Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet (1880–1950) was French sculptor of Belgian birth who worked during the early-to-mid 20th century. The subject matter of her best known work was primarily Arab female dancers. The majority of her career output in sculpture can be classified as being of the Art Deco style. Colinet was a frequent exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Francais and Salon des Independents art exhibitions in Paris. Her sculptures, most of which depicted beautifully figured, energized, and dramatic female forms, were exhibited posthumously at the Paris Salon for nearly 30 years. Early Life Colinet was born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1880. Little is known about her life other than the artwork she produced during a successful career that spanned more than 40 years. As a woman, she was in the minority in her chosen field of sculpture during the era in which she worked and lived. Career At an undetermined date – probably around 1910 – Colinet emigrated to Paris, France, where she studied sculpture under the watchful eye of Jef Lambeaux and exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1913 and became a permanent member of the organization in 1929. From 1937 to 1940, she exhibited at the Salon des Independents in Paris and joined the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors. Colinet's work is primarily done in the Art Deco style, and her models included odalisques, exotic dancers, jugglers and artists of cabaret. A number of her female dancer pieces were influenced by a revival of the Orientalism movement which had been popular in Europe from about 1860 to 1880. Her preferred casting material was bronze; however, a number of her most distinguished sculptures are chryselephantine, being a combination of both bronze and ivory. Colinet's sculpture has become highly desirable to collectors and, increasingly, is selling for exorbitant sums. At a Christie's sale on 4 May 2007, her Ankara Dancer...

Monumental Important Art Deco Silver Gilt Bronze Goddess G. Lavaroff
By Georges Lavroff
Located in New York City, NY
An exceptionally large and rare French Art Deco original bronze sculpture circa 1927 by a well known artist Georges Lavaroff (1895-1991) It's quite uncommon to find this very large size and notably featuring the silver and parcel gilt finish. The artwork features a majestic female nude, adorned with a stylized cloak in alternating stripes of gold and silver, which showcases a pyramid shape. The Egyptian goddess is depicted as an undraped figure with arms outstretched above her head, holding a crescent moon. She wears a north star headdress that adds to her regal appearance. The cloak is embellished with stars and a comet, and the female figure rests on a bed of stylized clouds. The sculpture is presented on its original black and gold marble base. All of these attributes add to the uniqueness and value of the artwork, making it even more remarkable and sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts. Water bottle shown for scale. Documentation : Les bronzes Art Deco de Georges Lavaroff, sculpteur Russe a Paris 1930 Kastelyn et Mazzucotelli. Georges Lavaroff was born in Sibera in 1895. He studied medicine and painting. After the revolution of 1917 he moved to Moscow and became a member of the Russian artists association where he began to exhibit his work and take part in shows as a member of the Association of artists of Revolutionary Russia. He then worked in France from 1927 until 1935. This period was the richest point of his profession where he produced his most famous works of Art Deco figures...
