About the Item

Richly carved wooden frame with guilloché decoration, 17th century. Guilloché decoration is a decorative technique of engraving regular geometric patterns on wood; these patterns, often linear or wavy, can be repeated to create an intricate and refined pattern. Widespread in Flanders and from there in Italy, this technique gives its name to a particular model of frame that, from the 17th century, met with great success to the point of being produced, with completely different techniques, materials and quality, until the 20th century. This is a 17th-century polychrome wood frame with its original wrought iron hook. Very good condition, small signs of time, small missing.
