About the Item
Fabulous, rare, sterling silver, Art Nouveau period picture frame, Thomas Brogan and Co., New York, Ca. 1895. The frame is acid-etched, having Art Nouveau-style flowers and vines that whip around the front of the frame. The cartouche at the top of the frame is vacant. The frame is pierced so that the dark green moire silk shows through the piercings. The frame is backed in dark green velvet.
The frame measures almost 8 inches high (at highest point) x 6 1/2 inches wide (at widest point - across bottom) x 5 3/4 inches wide (across shoulders) x 5 inches deep when easel is in open position. The window of the frame will hold and show a photo that measures 6 1/4 inches x 3 1/2 inches. Dark areas on sterling silver in photos are reflections. In very good antique condition. The frame will make an excellent addition to one's home.
