About the Item
A high quality and richly chased French 19th century Louis XV st. Ormolu picture frame. This elegant picture frame with all original gilding throughout is supported by two 'S' scrolled Ormolu supports at the rear. The body of the frame rests on scrolling foliate decorated feet that flank the scallop shaped central reserve which is accented by acanthus leaves on either side and flowers above. Both sides contain decorations of birds amidst foliated branches, a bow with a quiver of arrows, and frolicking winged cherubs at the top corners. The top of this beautiful picture frame is tastefully decorated with swaging floral garlands and a scallop shaped central reserve serving as the top crown.
