About the Item

Important and sculptural picture frame produced by Barovier Toso, Murano, dated 1938. A rare and refined example of early 20th-century Venetian glassmaking, where technical mastery and elegant restraint converge in a timeless decorative object. The substantial frame is realized in thick torchon glass, characterized by its continuous twisted texture, creating a vibrant play of light and shadow along the softly rounded perimeter. The glass surface is crisp and luminous, demonstrating the exceptional quality of Murano craftsmanship and the sculptural weight typical of Barovier Toso production from this period. Refined brass elements articulate the composition with architectural precision: the inner frame, the articulated hinge and the rear support are all executed in warm-toned metal, now enriched by a gentle, even patina that complements the clarity of the glass. The original brass stand bears the impressed signature “Barovier-Toso Murano,” further confirming authenticity and period. Generous in scale and presence, this frame was conceived not merely as an accessory but as an object of design in its own right. Whether displayed empty as a sculptural accent or used to frame a cherished artwork or photograph, it embodies the quiet luxury and material intelligence that define the best Murano creations of the interwar years. A rare survival in outstanding condition, and a highly collectible piece for discerning interiors and serious glass collectors. Glass thickness: 4 cm Depth when opened with stand: 24 cm
