About the Item
A spectacular and monumental early 18th Century Austrian carved frame.
Almost certainly originally made as an ecclesiastical or architectural surround for an altarpiece, large painting or mirror. Of impressive scale, the rectangular aperture is framed by deep pierced scrolling foliage and bold Baroque ornament, centred with decorative medallion roundels to the crest and apron. Retaining a wonderfully timeworn surface with traces of earlier finish and attractive wear throughout.
An exceptional statement piece—ideal as a dramatic mirror frame or to surround a large artwork within a grand interior. Circa 1720.
