About the Item
'Unity Sphere' Inflated metal wall artwork, made from highly mirror polished stainless steel.
The sculpture is a geodesic sphere measuring approximately 120cm in diameter constructed from 240 blown stainless steel triangular forms.
The sphere artwork is comprised of a complex network of triangular forms that respond to each other, creating a visual rhythm. Each triangle is made from high-grade stainless steel which when blown creates gaps between the triangles which will allow light to pass through the sculpture, bouncing light off one another, thus making the most of any natural light. The transient beauty of the highly reflective surface will continually rearticulate its surrounding environment.
The sphere is a very high-quality structure with beautiful attention to detail and flawless mirror surfaces, made with inflated mirror finish stainless steel panels, which give the surface a sinuous and fluid appearance. This curved and reflective surface creates mesmerising light patterns when illuminated and make this large-scale artwork a centrepiece that will captivate its audience.
Internal LED lights fill the sphere and project reflections outwards through the curved gaps between every panel onto the surrounding environment providing dramatic lighting effects.
These artworks have been commissioned for internal and external environments including cruise ships, public realm art, private gardens and incorporated into architectural schemes.
The artwork is supplied with certificate of authenticity and edition number. For public use an extensive structural report with foundation specifications , wind loadings and care and maintenance documents will be provided.
The artwork can be produced to bespoke sizes ranging from 120cm, 165cm , 200cm and 360cm or other bespoke sizing.
The mirror surface is 100% high grade stainless steel and can also be produced in a range of colored / textured finishes, metal plating and corten steel. Each piece is individually sculpted using our metal inflation process, resulting in a unique and individual piece each time. Each piece is hand-made, numbered and signed in the UK. All welds are extensively blended and polished by highly skilled craftspeople to produce a wonderful, flawless mirror finished piece of sculpture

Stephen Newby Studio
Stephen Newby is the founder and original creator of ‘inflated metal’. Newby’s first inflated metal chair appeared in Blueprint Magazine in November 1995. He patented the inflated metal process in 2001 and ever since has been perfecting his art form. With this unique and innovative process, Newby’s work has attracted some of the greatest talent in interior design and architecture, delivering highly innovative solutions through his production company 'fullblOwn' to clients such as Zaha Hadid Architects and Louis Vuitton worldwide and more recently Bottaga Venetta for high concept interiors, large-scale installations and architectural design. As a celebration of this pioneering work Stephen Newby Studio has created a range of legacy furniture pieces from over the past 25 years and made them available in a limited edition range. Along with new works , this range is available exclusively on 1st Dibs.
