About the Item

Rare wooden brazier hook.Such hooks were traditionally used in relatively wealthy farmers houses and were suspended from the ceiling over the traditional iron hearth. Beautifully carved from a solid piece of Keyaki wood (japanese zelkova) , perhaps most desirable hard wood in Japan, known for its strength and beautiful grain. A very beautiful patination on wood surface developed over the years of usage and constant smoke from the hearth. Age: Edo-Meji period , 19 th century Size :H.41cm (16.1inch), W.20cm (7.7inch) x 30cm (11.8inch) Weight:4.7kg (10.3lb) Good condition with patination and some minor abrasions and wood cracks due of age as you see in the photos .
