About the Item
There are several smaller and lesser-known independent workshops across Scandinavia some producing exceptional and stunning work. Birger Åberg is one such artist or perhaps ceramic sculptor might be a more appropriate title. We have seen a few of his work all figural and sculptural however have found little information on this artist.
A very stylish Swedish mid-century ceramic sculpture of an abstract figure by little know artist Birger Åberg and dating from around 1960. The tall hand-crafted figure stands raised and mounted on a wooden base and portrays a shrouded figure of oriental or Japanese appearance. The tall figure has sharp angles and is decorated in deep red and yellow glazes. The figure has an incised signature to the lower back.
Provenance: from a choice collection of Scandinavian pottery amassed by a private gentleman who sadly now has insufficient space to display these fine pieces.
Excellent condition with light wear associated with age and use.
