About the Item
'Blue Fungi' is a unique glass sculpture by the British artist, Nina Casson McGarva.
Casson McGarva firstly casts her glass in a flat mould where she introduces all of the beautifully detailed, scaled surface texture, all unique and to her distinct design. Her glass is then subjected to a second lower temperature firing to reheat it, allowing her to manipulate the flat form and coax, bend and support it into the final three-dimensional shape. The glass is incredibly hot during this process and requires the artist to be completely covered in protective clothing and gloves. The sheer heat makes the work arduous and exhaustive. Casson McGarva also has to be quick to decide on the final shape, as there is around a 20-minute window to work the glass before it is too cool and will no longer move.
Born in Gloucester in England, Nina Casson McGarva grew up in rural central France in the middle of the Burgundy countryside. Surrounded by a family of creatives
makers and growing up in an environment full of nature and craft, has definitely influenced her life and artwork. McGarva started learning the basic technical skills of glass blowing in the National French Glass school in Yzeure, then at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts on Bornholm where she started to use other glass techniques such as casting fusing and experimenting with several new processes.
Since graduating in 2014, McGarva has been part of two Artist residency programmes in the USA; one at Starworks in Star, NC and the Eair Programme at Pilchuck Glass school in Stanwood, WA. She has shown her work throughout Europe and in the USA.

In her own words;
“The starting point in my work is nature. I take a detail of an element I find in nature and use it as an inspirational base to create my own abstraction, that then builds into a complex sculpture.
My inspiration comes from cycles of nature that I associate with glass because to me the material goes through a cycle and is at it's most alive when it’s hot and being transformed. The end result is solid and doesn’t move any longer, it is at the fragile time before disintegration and maintains a dynamic form and rich structures such as dry leaves, feathers or sea shells. In the making process I shape it hot in an open kiln until the glass stops moving. When the glass transforms to be a solid, the piece is finished”.

Wave Lounge by Eduard Locota. Turquoise-Blue Acrylic Glass Sculptural Design
By Eduard Locota
Located in Timisoara, RO
Once upon a time, in the middle of the Ocean, on a very still day, while the sun was shining, a wave has appeared. Why did the wave appear exactly at that place and time? Nobody knows.
What we know for centuries, is that the Ocean is never still, and always has waves at the horizon. We know that a wave is only energy. Energy transmitted through particles of water, causing it to swirl into an endless circular motion. And if not obstructed, waves have the potential to travel across an entire ocean basin.
The story of the Wave Lounge was born once upon a time, while gazing at the never-ending blue horizon. Inspired by the vast energy of the wind and sea strongly colliding together, the idea of this monolithic functional sculpture was thus born.
The concept
As a piece of the Ocean, a strong presence of mass was needed in the style of Wave Lounge. The twist of a wave near braking point, encapsulated in time, that will completely charm the viewer’s eyes.
With a total neglect for traditional design, this fully functional design piece will undoubtedly generate emotions. Be prepared to take a large slice of wave right into your home.
Build process
Build fully by hand, with acrylic glass as a primary material. For each piece, literally over 200 Kg of material was used for this monolithic functional artwork. it is necessary to pour over 60 colored layers of liquid acrylic...
