About the Item
A limited-edition bronze relief plaque titled Sea and Sky by Hungarian-American artist Gabor Peterdi (1915–2001), number 13 from an edition of 250. The square relief is cast in bronze with dark patina and gilt highlights, presenting Peterdi’s distinctive abstract organic forms suggestive of microscopic and cosmic worlds in unison. The composition combines textured surfaces, biomorphic motifs, and linear rhythms, evoking an imaginative dialogue between oceanic depths and celestial expanses.
Signed Peterdi along the lower margin of the relief and again inscribed on the reverse Sea and Sky, Peterdi, 13/250. Known primarily as a printmaker, painter, and sculptor, Peterdi’s work fused surrealism and natural abstraction, often exploring elemental forces and the continuity of creation. His bronzes and intaglio prints alike reveal a fascination with nature’s primordial patterns expressed through a modernist lens.
