About the Item

Brussels sculpture by Carlo Massoud Handmade Dimensions: D 18 x W 45 x H 7 cm Materials: Carrara Marble Carlo Massoud’s work stems from his relentless questioning of social, political, cultural, and environmental norms. He often pushes his viewers to question their knowledge of the subject, leading them towards thought-inducing confusion and provocation. “I am in persistent search for new spaces, ideas, cultures, and destinations, and I actively document, research, and collect information from various sources.” The exploration of new and unknown places is key to his creations. Through these, he finds new stories to tell and share through collaborating with local artisans and designers, creating a global narrative that stems from unique associations of people, cultures, and materials. “Collaborating with local visionaries allows me to discover new techniques of production, while using basic materials and groundbreaking technology. Our united effort creates an exchange of cultures, knowledge, and possibilities.” In 2013, he began working under his own name, participating in international fairs, including the Armory Show (NYC), Southern Guild (Cape Town), Design Days (Dubai), Milan Design Week (Milan), Maison Objet (Paris) among many.

Carrara Marble Sculpture by Jan Keustermans
Located in Vlimmeren, BE
This abstract sculpture in Carrara marble was sculpted ‘en taille directe’ by the Belgian artist Jan Keustermans. The triangular composition creates a dynamic effect. The sculpture is signed and dated, Jake 04. It is a unique piece. It is the first time that Jan Keustermans and his family offer a selection of sculptures, directly from the artist’s atelier. Jan Alfons Keustermans (°1940) is a Belgian sculptor, medalist and draftsman. He studied at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp and until 2000 he was director of the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in Turnhout. He has won several art prizes for sculpture and participated in group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad. He has created more than 850 works. In 1994, he won the Ministry of Finance’s competition for a portrait of King Albert II on the Belgian currency. In 1997 he designed a similar version for the euro coin. Keustermans’ work evolved from figurative to completely abstract. He describes the abstract works as ‘memorial...
