About the Item

A further examination of "The Challis" these sculptural pieces become an offering, a gift, a ritual. Rather than just a cup, it is a cup endowed with a unique central sculpture. A fantasy element. A symbol. These pieces go a step further, offering an interior element to gaze upon. I hand build them with my favorite clay body, a beautiful dark brown. Inside the Challis, there is beauty and desire, power and intent. It is private. It is your interpretation that matters, what you see in the offering. What kind of ritual will you create with it? The curious will look in, the satisfied will gaze from afar. All is good! To those who look closely they will be rewarded with the observable technique of the artist: finger marks, scraping, the pinching and forming of the raw clay, glaze added to the bare challis form. Again, no two could ever be the same and the uniqueness is to be celebrated. Signed with Artist's signature chop underneath.
