About the Item

Hand sculpted ceramic statue. Made by German artist Dieter Eichelmann in the 1980s. Totem or phallus style abstract figure sculpted from terracotta clay with Polychrome glazing. The statue came from the personal collection of the artist himself. Dieter Eichelmann Born: 1946 in Bardenberg - Died: 2018 Vocational training in woodworking during his completed architectural studies in Aachen, among others. Sculpture seminar with Prof. Tobolla. Ceramic training with Doris Hüller, Fürstenfeldbruck. Finishing, Prof. Yargo de Lucca, Altenrhein, Switzerland. The artistic examination of the themes of our time and the theme of giving shape to sound according to his will led Dieter Eichelmann to this choice of material. He is fascinated by the possibility of creating the still unburned earth. The ceramic object and relief offers Dieter Eichelmann the special opportunity to satisfy his curiosity for new discovery, for experiment and adventure. Dieter Eichelmann wants to understand his work as an expression of his understanding of the world, they are a synthesis of what has been seen and experienced. The art historian Dr. Dirk Tölke on the works of Dieter Eichelmann: "The ceramic works of Dieter Eichelmann are not potted or turned. Stratifications, montages, changes of negative and positive forms, additions of metal and other materials, combinations of smooth and rough surfaces lead to objects, steles and murals that convey joy over creation with playful elegance and evoke thoughtfulness." Dieter Eichelmann organized numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. He took part in numerous competitions, only the commissioned work at the roundabout in Würselen-Broichweiden and at the Rhein-Maas-Klinikum in Würselen are mentioned.
