About the Item
Whimsical blown art glass sculpture in shape of a teapot features Memphis style color palette of bright yellow, red, and blue with black and white accents. Graphic geometric forms of the teapot, lid, spout, and handle are accentuated by color blocking: the body is done in yellow glass, encased in a layer of clear glass with free-form black and white accent inclusions, the handle is done in mottled blue, the spout - in mottled red, and the lid has red body and blue handle.
The sculpture is signed by the artist on the underside. we are offering another Memphis style teapot shaped art glass sculpture or paperweight by American artist Bruce Freund in a separate listing.
Unique, one of a kind design with strong Post Modern influence will make the sculpture a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interior styles, from Traditional to Eclectic, Modern Country, Transitional, Mid Century Modern, Collected, Hollywood Regency, Glam, or Contemporary. The bright, colorful appearance and elegant form allow the piece to display beautifully with either glass, wood, or metal, and add visual interest to decor vignettes, as well as to serve as an anchor piece for a shelf, desc, or table decor.
Christian Thirion was born in France and moved to California in 1980; he started to work with stained glass in 1984, and took a course in glassmaking at the city college in Santa Barbara in 1987. After blowing glass for two years in Seattle, Washington, where he learned by working with other artists, such as Martin Blank and Dante Marioni, he relocated to the Finger Lakes region of New York in 1992, where he converted a 1930s brick building, formerly the village elementary school in Millport, NY, into his studio and hot-shop, conveniently located nearby the Corning Museum of Glass. His style can be characterized by a blend of classic elegance and fluid forms; while his early vessels were smaller in size, enhanced with wings, colorful accents, or flame-shaped stoppers, he began moving toward larger pieces with his curved two-tone vessels in the Wave Series. The teapots are one of his common subjects; they are whimsical, colorful, and sculptural, with an elaborate handle and spout, and sometimes they can be topped with a whimsical hat or even top hat as a lid. Thirion's work is represented by multiple galleries nationwide.

Roman Erlikh is a professional woodworker with over 20 years’ experience. Roman Erlikh Studio creates bespoke and limited edition contemporary furniture and art objects. His first furniture collections were inspired by traditional Art Deco and Biedermeier styles interpreted through a modern lifestyle demands. Stepping away from merely utilitarian view of everyday objects, his recent collections are filled with meaningful textual context while incorporating traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Roman is using practical function as a common denominator to create emotionally charged art objects, blurring the boundary between art and function. While appreciating possibilities of ordinary materials, Roman is developing new mixed media multilayered composite varnishes and utilizes decorative gilding and mica veneer to actively engage ambient light, giving an additional aspect to relation of his objects to their environment. The decision to work in custom format was based on environmental concerns and opposition to culture of mass production and pure consumerism. The choice of materials was heavily influenced by sustainability and environmental concerns. All objects are made locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop. Elimination of storage and transportation needs for mass-produced furniture in lieu of creating a custom made objects on demand allows us to reduce waste of materials and energy.
