About the Item

Vintage hand-crafted art glass sculpture features triangular form with multiple layers of brightly colored, applied fused glass elements on clear glass base. Predominantly green and purple glass is juxtaposed with coral, blue, and black elements, creating a distinct color palette that supports the complex, highly textured shape, reminiscent of Memphis Milano pieces. The sculpture is signed and dated on the underside by the artist; due to the convenient size, it can be used either as a table, shelf, or mantel decoration, or as a paperweight or a desk decor. David Garcia studied stained glass under Paul Dufour in 1978-1980 while working on his landscape architecture degree at Louisiana State University. In 1981, Garcia resumed his glass studies with John Leighton, and, in 1982, he briefly studied hot glass at the California College of Arts and Crafts under the tutelage of Marvin Lipofsky. In 1983, Garcia started working independently out of Shaun Weisbach's studio; in 1987, he built his own hot glass shop. Garcia work is characterized by his use of multi-layered geometric forms and the interplay between shapes, brilliant colors, and the fluid optics of glass. Garcia is represented by multiple galleries and fine arts museum shops nationwide. Striking design with strong structured lines, high quality craftsmanship, and convenient size will make the sculpture a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interior styles, from Traditional to Eclectic, Transitional, Mid Century Modern, Collected, Post Modern, or Contemporary.

Henry Summa Sommerso Helix Sculpture, American Studio Art Glass
By Henry Summa
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Graphic art glass sculpture or paperweight was created with intertwining blue glass spiral coil helixes and controlled bubbles core fused in clear glass layer in sommerso technique. The sculpture has triangular shape with slightly elevated base and soft, rounded edges; the minimal shape of the piece allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage. The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; it is in good vintage condition with minimal, age-appropriate signs of use on the bottom. Rare, hard to find example of New Mexico studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass or art collector. Henry Summa (1949-2008) has been working in glass since 1972. His early training in the glass arts was based on an apprenticeship at renowned Glory Hole Glassworks in New Mexico. Canyon Road Studio, known then as Glory Hole Glassworks, was owned by Peter Vanderlaan...

Nicholson Fused Glass Bowl, 1992, American Art Studio Glass
By Rick Janet Nicholson
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage glass bowl in biomorphic shape was created by Rick and Janet Nickolson in 1992; it features a pair of abstract patterns in pink, cream, and white glass fused on thin, almost transparent green glass background. The green color deepens around the heavier base, creating a contrast with the light, ethereal body of the bowl. The bowl is signed and dated on the base near the bottom. Rick and Janet Nicholson of Nicholson Blown Glass Studio have worked together as a successful team since 1979. Rick first studied glass with Don Hartman and the University of Southern California and was a TA at Pilchuck Glass School for Dale Chihuly and Fritz Dreisbach in 1981; he continued to study with such notables as Therman Statom...
