About the Item

Extra Large Organic Wooden Sculpture by Dutch Artist Jef Passe 1970 Hand Carved wood and different and impressive from every angle. Dark Wood that shines due to various light that reflects on the image from different angles. A beautiful one-off object. Jef Depassé (1943-2021) worked as a Sculptor all his life. From 1967 to 2001, he had his studio in Euvelgunne (the Netherlands). He then had a studio in Eelde-Paterswolde (the Netherlands) He created sculptures for both indoor and outdoor use, using brass, marble, bluestone, wood, and bronze. From large and monumental to small and delicate. He sold his work to municipalities, companies, social organizations, and private collections. How can you add color, structure, and form simply by removing the material?’ This question continues to fascinate Depassé, especially when working with stone and wood. Bit by bit, he carefully removes pieces of stone/wood. A little less here, a little more there, but certainly not too much, because every action is irreversible. The sculptor wants to bring out the innermost being, to expose the core of the stone/wood, while still retaining an interesting form. Every chunk of stone/wood, every piece holds surprises beneath its muted surface, discoverable only with a chisel and hammer. And it is precisely this challenge that remains a constant adventure.
