About the Item

Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) for Toso Vetri d'Arte "Ananke" sculptural vase in multicolored blown glass Memphis Milano edition Signed with a stylus. Circa 1986 Height: 50 cm Designed in 1986 by Ettore Sottsass, this stunning totem-shaped vase is crafted from blown glass and displays a striking contrast of shapes, colors, and textures. The result is an exquisite work of art that evokes the silhouette of a flower, with a flared red mouth and a green conical shape. This superb addition to a contemporary interior is handmade; therefore, sizes and shades may vary slightly. Memphis Lombardy, Italy Designer founded in Milan in 1980 by Ettore Sottsass and a group of visionary designers (including Martine Bedin, George J. Sowden, and Michele de Lucchi), Memphis redefined the design landscape with its radical and emotionally charged aesthetic. Rejecting functionalism, the collective introduced a bold visual language rich in symbols and color. Over the years, its roster of designers has grown, but its mission remains unchanged: to create objects that evoke emotion and challenge conventions. Memphis pieces are now celebrated in major museums, from the Victoria Albert Museum to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
