About the Item
A wonderful and engaging organic natural elements sculpture by renowned UK/United Kingdom artist Heather Jansch (1948-2021). Jansch was widely recognized in the British artworld for making unique abstract driftwood (from the beaches of Devon) sculptures, most notably later in her career for her equine figurative life-sized driftwood sculptures of horses.
In 1999, her horse sculptures were featured in the Shape of the Century 100 Years of Sculpture in Britain at Salisbury Cathedral. The exhibition was then taken to London's Canary Wharf as part of the millennium celebrations in 2000 where her horses caught the attention of Tim Smit, founder of the Eden Project; she was invited to become one of their resident artists. Her horse was voted the most popular art work there and has since become universally known as The Eden Horse.
This sculpture though simplistic at first glance, gains in complexity upon each viewing. It is a multi-textured, multi-layered work with beautiful form and balance. The piece is signed and dated (1986) by Jansch on the corner of the base.
Jansch's works can be found in numerous private collections and museums around the world including in the US, Canada, Switzerland, France and Romania. She exhibited internationally on a number of occasions, including, in 2007, as artist in residence at Arte Sella in Borgo Valsugana, Italy.
The sculpture would make for a very eye catching work in about any setting, modern or otherwise.

A fantastic, quite whimsical, engaging Mid-century Modern abstract female nude sculpture by New York artist Albert Leon Wilson. This is one of the best pieces we have come across of his work.
Wilson was born in 1920 in Jamaica, New York. In the mid-1950s he relocated to Rochester, New York, where he worked until 1967 as an art director, illustrator, and photographer, winning over 20 graphic art awards from the Rochester Society of Communicating Artists. Afterward, he found his calling working with welded and bent metals and designing abstract sculptures often featuring figures and animals. He passed away in 1999.
The sculpture is signed and dated (1968) with Wilson's traditional imprint/stamp.
