About the Item

Irreversível is a contemporary sculptural work that investigates the notion of permanence, instability, and transformation within matter. The piece explores how minimal gestures and precise structural decisions can generate states of tension, imbalance, and silent movement, revealing that what appears stable is, in fact, constantly negotiating its own condition. Composed of a steel base, a spherical metallic element, and a wooden structure that partially rests upon it, the sculpture establishes a delicate and intentional displacement. One point of the form is supported by the sphere, while another anchors to the base, leaving the remaining extremities suspended in space. This asymmetrical configuration creates a subtle inclination, both horizontal and vertical, suggesting an invisible force acting upon the body of the work. The sculpture does not seek equilibrium as resolution, but rather embraces imbalance as a state of existence. The materials are treated with restraint and clarity. Wood, metal, and structural elements are not ornamented but allowed to express their inherent weight, density, and presence. Through this economy of form, the work emphasizes concentration over excess, allowing meaning to emerge from tension, gravity, and spatial relation rather than narrative or decoration. Irreversível is part of Otávio Motta’s ongoing sculptural research into material sensitivity and inner force, where matter is understood as an active field — capable of holding energy, memory, and transformation. The work reflects a practice rooted in minimalism not as reduction, but as precision: each element exists because it is necessary, and every gesture carries conceptual weight. An important aspect of the sculpture is its mutability. The vertical elements are not permanently fixed, allowing the piece to be subtly reconfigured according to space, context, or curatorial intention. This adaptability is intrinsic to the work’s conception, reinforcing the idea that form is never static and that meaning can shift without losing its core identity. This sculpture is a unique, one-of-a-kind work and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist.
