Large Carrara Marble Sculpture by Jan Keustermans
Located in Vlimmeren, BE
This abstract sculpture in Carrara marble was sculpted ‘en taille directe’ by the Belgian artist Jan Keustermans. The sculpture is signed Jake. It is a unique piece. It is the first time that Jan Keustermans and his family offer a selection of sculptures, directly from the artist’s atelier. Jan Alfons Keustermans (°1940) is a Belgian sculptor, medalist and draftsman. He studied at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp and until 2000 he was director of the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in Turnhout. He has won several art prizes for sculpture and participated in group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad. He has created more than 850 works. In 1994, he won the Ministry of Finance’s competition for a portrait of King Albert II on the Belgian currency. In 1997 he designed a similar version for the euro coin. Keustermans’ work evolved from figurative to completely abstract. He describes the abstract works as ‘memorial...

Livio Seguso for Bisazza, Massiccio Fish with Rainbow Canes 1993 Signed
By Livio Seguso, Bisazza Vetro
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Massiccio fish with the rainbow cane sequence of Livio Seguso. This sequence was used in several pieces, bowls to be highlighted with lens effect of the piece. The fish body acts like a magnifying lens and the colors are moving when looking at the piece. See the video. Part of Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi. Bisazza, the famous luxury mosaic company, continued Seguso models for the first part of the 1990s. Then closed the furnace and continued to focus with his mosaic collection. His masters, Elio Raffaelli...

Murano Glass Mezza Filgrana, Green Amethyst Clear with Gold Leaf, Cenedese Attr
By Carlo Scarpa, Cenedese
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Great color combination. The filigree/filigrana glass is a cane with a color inside. Usually clear on the outside with a core in colored or opaque glass. Most used are white or black filigrana. This is a self-made filigrana as there is a green coating over an Amethyst core, making the Amethyst almost a dark bronze color. The other cane is clear with amethyst. The twisting (mena in muranese, or ritorto) makes a lay with the back of the vase almost as it is a reticello (once called filigrana, so that explains the term mezza filigrana). The special color combination was then rolled over pure gold leaf, highlighted with the iridescence smoke and then covered with another layer of high temperature glass to make the gold vivid. The vase is quite large and carries a squared mouth, in a way of Carlo Scarpa mezza filigrana vases...
