Mixed-Media Sculpture Dror Karta
By Dror Karta
Located in Palm Springs, CA
A wonderful mixed-media sculpture by the noted Israeli Artist Dror Karta. This sculpture was in a traveling exhibition and is pictured in the book. The exhibition was about Palestinian and Israeli artists, who were given the same bowl to start. This is the actual piece. It is signed as well. It is a ceramic bowl, four glass leaves and lots of little bottles inside loose. The glass leaves are molded into the ceramic base by some kind of white epoxy. The leaves have been repaired at the base with the epoxy and quite a few of the little bottles have damage. There is a small chip on the underside.

alabaster, marble, mixed media
31 x 7 x 7 in
This piece was carveed out of a solid block of alabaster stone and
hand painted.
American Pop art sculptor Robin Antar has been called “Brooklyn’s answer to Andy Warhol.” She brings Pop art to stone, carving iconic American food and designer clothing with her distinct brand of hyperrealism.
Robin Antar began sculpting in 1974 and had already paid her dues in sweat and stone dust before receiving a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1981. Her artistic path parallels the American art world’s evolution from Abstract Expressionism to Pop art: she began creating abstract works that were deeply rooted in her emotions before turning to realism in 1998. Her “Realism in Stone” series soon gained notoriety and she began getting commissions to carve replicas of products for national and international companies such as Dr. Martens, Stella Artois...
