Rare, large and spectacular murano organic abstract art glass conch shell centerpiece sculpture with a mesmerizing iridescent and opalescent finish. Hand made on the venetian island of murano in italy, this conch shell art glass sculpture has a fantastic organic abstract shape with hobnail like artistic knobs protruding from the glass adding dimension and depth to an already alluring piece. The iridized finish of this art glass shell refracts lights in a dazzling rainbow of colors on what is otherwise a clear opal glass body. Ideal for the discerning collector of unique organic modern glass art, natural specimens, atomic age design or ocean decor. Equally at home in the beach house or the penthouse.
Ancient Roman and Egyptian glass developed iridescence naturally over time due to weathering, which inspired modern glassmakers like Tiffany and Loetz to deliberately replicate the effect. The first known intentional iridescent glass was created by Leo Valentin Pantocsek in 1856, but it was Tiffany's 1894 patent for Favrile glass that popularized the process for creating decorative art glass
