About the Item

O Contato marks the inaugural instant of a sculptural cycle: the threshold where the invisible touches the visible and quietly reorients it. In Otávio Motta’s language, sculpture becomes a site of convergence—faith, heightened sensitivity, and form distilled into a single restrained gesture. A slender, ascending blade of solid Brazilian hardwood is hand-carved into a controlled curve—an organic growth held in suspension, tense yet serene. At its center, a satin-finished brass sphere rests in poised stillness, acting as the work’s silent nucleus. At the point of contact, the wood yields into a hairline opening—minimal, yet irreversible—an almost imperceptible trace shaped by the wood’s natural grain: the vestige of an encounter between matter and presence. Handcrafted in the studio, the work unites sobriety of form with symbolic density, inviting contemplation rather than spectacle. O Contato is offered as a one-of-a-kind work, produced upon request with a 6–8 week lead time, and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. A discreet steel base for stability is included. Dimensions: 160 × 20 × 15 cm (63 × 7.9 × 5.9 in) Materials / Techniques: Handcrafted; hand-carved Brazilian hardwood (species may vary due to availability and natural grain); satin-finished brass; sealed, museum-grade finish.
