About the Item
O Nada Entre is a contemporary sculpture conceived to materialize the charged interval—the instant in which something is about to be revealed, yet remains unfulfilled. Within Otávio Motta’s Second Movement, the work treats “nothingness” not as absence, but as a dense presence: a suspended threshold where tension becomes form.
An oxidized steel base (120 × 60 cm) supports a hand-carved wooden sphere (18 cm diameter), preserving subtle, natural irregularities of the surface. From the opposite end, a welded brass arc emerges, thicker at its origin and progressively tapering toward a finely controlled tip that stops approximately 1.5 mm from the sphere—without touching. This minimal gap becomes the core of the work: a precise distance that concentrates desire, restraint, and imminence.
The brass retains traces of its making—weld seams and a controlled patina—while the tip is gently refined to hold light with precision. Under lateral, low-angle light, the arc’s shadow appears to “touch” where the metal does not, turning the interval itself into the protagonist.

Otávio Motta
Otávio Motta is a Brazilian contemporary sculptor active in both Brazil and the international art scene.
