About the Item
The Other, 2018, is a figural form of a being in motion, originally carved from a single piece of English oak and then cast into bronze.
The sculpture is part of a body of works that explore the spiritual state of seeking and understanding of ones’ sense of identity and purpose. Inspired by the East Asian traditions of meditative viewing of bonsai and scholar’s rocks, it aims to trigger a contemplative process in the viewer that is both outward-looking and inward-looking.
Jonathan Roson is an Australian born artist living and working in London. Roson works with bronze, marble and wood.
Roson’s most recent body of work represents anthropomorphic figural forms. Through form, movement and shape, his sculptures explore the fundamental experience of being human, often projecting both the sense of belonging and alienation as well as heightened awareness of the change and uncertainty of day-to-day life.
Roson holds a Bachelor of Horticultural Science (2002) from Western Sydney University and a Master of Fine Arts (2007) from University of New South Wales, Art and Design. He is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. He has exhibited in Australia, Canada, Portugal and the U.K.
