Pele Fina is a contemporary sculptural work by Otávio Motta that explores vulnerability as a form of strength. The piece belongs to the Sensitive Matter – Second Phase series, in which material is treated not as inert substance, but as a living, responsive body.
The sculpture is composed of a darkened steel plate, manually perforated through repeated impacts, and a dense accumulation of blackened steel rods resting against its surface. Each hole in the plate registers a unique gesture — a force that struck, bent, and altered the metal in a way that can never be repeated. The surface becomes an epidermis: there is no inside or reverse, only a permeable skin that receives, absorbs, and remembers.
The rods form a physical archive of what has passed through this sensitive body — forces, pressures, memories, and invisible intensities. They are not remnants, but traces. Together, the elements create a sculptural field where matter does not represent the human condition; it is the human condition.
In Pele Fina, Motta proposes that to remain open — to feel without retreating — is not fragility, but dignity. The satin-dark steel breathes like flesh, marked yet present, vulnerable yet standing. The work offers no armor and no drama, only a quiet, powerful presence that reflects the saturated, exposed state of contemporary existence.

Otávio Motta
Otávio Motta is a Brazilian contemporary sculptor active in both Brazil and the international art scene.
