About the Item
An extraordinary signed sculpture by Pietro Cenedella, carved from luminous Carrara marble in the 1970s. Resting on a rectangular marble plinth, the work unfurls in a dynamic, shell-like form, where smooth undulating curves and hollowed recesses create a dialogue between weight and lightness, solidity and fluidity.
The composition has a distinctly biomorphic, almost fitomorphic quality — recalling the organic rhythms of petals, shells, or natural growths — where the stone seems to flow and breathe like a living form. The natural veining and tonal variations of Carrara marble accentuate this vitality, turning the material into a play of sculptural light and shadow.
At once abstract and evocative, the piece resonates with the lyrical modernism of artists such as Isamu Noguchi or Jean Arp, where sculptural mass becomes an exploration of rhythm and movement.
Importantly, the sculpture bears visible signs of time and a natural patina, intentionally preserved to honor its age and authenticity. These traces enrich the piece, deepening its sense of history and highlighting the nobility of the material.
Cenedella’s refined hand gives the marble a sensuous tactility, emphasizing its inherent luminosity while maintaining a striking architectural presence. Both sculpture and vessel, it stands as a testament to Italian artistry at the intersection of modernism and timeless stone carving traditions.
Signed Cenedella on the base.

VITTORIO GENTILE (1939 - 2022)
Born in 1939, he was interested in the transformation of stone and form since he was a child.
At 25 he established himself as a point of reference for a genre sculpture based on research, on morphoglobalism.
He understood the sphere as an expansive figure and achieved important successes in Rome and the United States.
It is the years of famous sculptures such as "Il Ratto", "Il Torso" that place him among the great contemporary interpreters.
A success that will continue in the 80s and 90s and which will culminate in the great exhibition at the Vittoriano in 2003.
Vittorio Gentile's forms have an organic genesis. They chase tensions and movements of bodies, abstractions, robust surfaces of shoulders, buttocks, torsos.
The monument to Giovanni Falcone...
