About the Item

Multi-layered resin sculpture representing a dreamlike creature, created in a collaborative project with Philippe Druillet. One-of-a-kind piece. Total width: 73 cm (28.7 inches) Height: 45 cm (17.7 inches) Depth: 40 cm (15.75 inches) Base: 32 cm X 27 cm (12.6 inches X 10.6 inches) Biography Pierre Giraudon, France (1923-2012) Pierre Giraudon was born in 1923 in Paris. After studying botany and biology at the Sorbonne, he moved to Canada in 1949 where he was appointed to the Montreal Institute of Biology. At this time, the inclusion of specimens in transparent plastic material was developing in the United States. The purpose of this new technique is above all educational: to make the plant and animal world accessible to everyone. The recognition of his work in 1954 encouraged him to explore the artistic possibilities offered by this new technique. This recognition earned him participation in the first Triennale of Contemporary Art at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1956. His solid scientific culture and a more personal, artistic and poetic vision lead him to create and imagine unique pieces for clients such as National Education, the Théâtre des Champs Élysées but also prestigious houses like Dior, Hermès and even artists. renowned (Caesar, Dali, Arman), etc. Precursor, inventor, scientist and eclectic artist, Pierre Giraudon devoted more than fifty years of his life to this fusion work. In the 1980s, the work undertaken by Pierre Giraudon continued with his daughter Constance. It brings a more personal and dreamlike touch where reality and fantasy mingle. Since the death of her father, Constance Giraudon has devoted herself exclusively to artistic creation. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, he created sculptures, lamp bases and objects in colored resin with or without inclusions. Alongside his personal creations, he works for César. However, Pierre Giraudon still refuses the label of artist because he considers himself above all a biologist. He left us in 2012.
