One of a kind, handmade earthy sculptures inspired by traditional Spanish ceramics and classical utilitarian forms. Raw, unglazed, solid. Shapes are simple and bold, echoing campanario water jugs and ornamental filigree. The artist blends two-dimensional graphic influence with sculptural symmetry and balance. These unique sculptures explore timeless contrasts: tradition and modernity, form and function, art and craft.
Aniana's sculptures frequently reference utilitarian forms, spiritual symbols, or imagined rituals. She is interested in the tension between surface and volume, simplicity and complexity, art and craft. For her, ceramics is not only a medium but a way of thinking and being—an exploration of obsolete technologies, slow processes, and the urgent need for low-tech, mindful creative spaces.

Aniana Heras
Aniana Heras is a Spanish ceramic sculptor based in Berlin. Born in the countryside of Sigüenza (Guadalajara, Spain) and trained in arts and design in Madrid and Barcelona, she spent over 15 years working as a digital designer before turning to clay in 2022. What began as an experiment quickly became a vital, physical, and meditative practice—an anchor to presence and a way to reconnect with the material world. Largely self-taught, Heras has developed a body of work that is both earthy and conceptually rich. Her handmade, one-of-a-kind sculptures often arise from improvisation, guided by the act of making itself. Through her practice, she explores ideas of timelessness, balance, and contrast—tradition versus innovation, function versus form. Her pieces challenge both material and meaning, drawing inspiration from traditional Spanish pottery, contemporary sculpture, architecture, and design.

The idea was born after deciding to reconnect with my family and my grandfather – a sculptor artist. Learning to sculpt and being a designer compelled me to combine these two mediums and use their best values. Experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture led me to create the collection.
Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio combining art and design. It was created by Alicja Strzyzynska and Onur Iseri in Amsterdam in 2020.
“We specialise in making sculptural pieces by experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture. In our works, we focus on the emotional connection between the object and the user. All of our work seeks the experience of intimacy and the metaphysical bond between personal interaction and meaningful narrative. Through sculptural value and reflective design, we aim to create pieces that last for generations and help reduce environmental waste.”
The inspiration to sculpt came from Alicja’s roots, her grandfather – an artist sculptor. Alicja completed Masters of Arts Degree in Product and Visual Communication Design at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and finished her bachelor degree in Interior Architecture. Alicja previously worked in Tokyo and Amsterdam in architectural design studios. Onur completed his business studies in Japan and worked in digital design & marketing as well as teaching in Tokyo.
