About the Item

Unique sculpture handmade by Danish artist Erik Aalykke in his own studio in the 1960s. The piece is made from acid treated iron with a beautiful patina. Erik Aalykke (1923-83) used his knowledge as a shipbuilder in his artistic work, which primarily consisted of sculptures and reliefs in iron. His sculptures are characterized by their bold and light construction and are almost all built in the same way. A slender stem springs from a solid plinth, which grows upwards in size and spreads out with great volume. Aalykke's idiom is abstract-expressionist based on the organic world. A certain influence from Robert Jacobsen seems to be felt throughout his work. Signed with artist initials on base "E.Å".
