A new functional sculpture made from black stone from Aragon has an organic shape. Can be used as a magazine rack and book holder. Pedra Negra F-1 was made by the Barcelona-based sculptor Ricard Casabayó.
Hand-carved and polished sculptures feature black tones with veins and oxidations. Solidified organic materials show different shades, making each piece unique with functional aspects. Their cuts and shapes invite interaction and support everyday objects. In various formats and designs, these pieces complement each other and draw inspiration from nature, ancient temples, and imagined cities. They blend art, design, and functionality, evoking ancient cultures. Emerging from forgotten quarries, these sculptures remind us that nature is always ahead. Their unique, random designs are hidden until discovered and displayed.
Ricard Casabayó, born in the 1960s in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighborhood, was influenced by the industrial environment and drawn to analog photography and painting. In the early 1990s, he specialized in volume techniques and stone carving at the school of applied arts and crafts.He set up his workshop in La Escocesa, a former factory turned creative space, where he worked for nearly twenty years, advocating for creative spaces and self-management. Currently, he works in the Sant Andreu district. As an active artist, he participates in various projects, both individual and collective, often integrating design concepts within different contexts.
