About the Item

Decorate an office, library, or study with this commanding antique eagle sculpture. Hand-carved in France circa 1830, the majestic bird is depicted with wings outstretched in full display of power and grace. Resting on an integral square plinth base embellished with scrolling acanthus motifs, the figure showcases masterful craftsmanship throughout, from the finely detailed plumage and sharply defined talons to the expressive eyes and curved beak. Symbolic of strength, freedom, and victory, the French Imperial Eagle (“Aigle de Drapeau”) was adopted by Napoleon as the standard for his Grande Armée, echoing the Roman legions’ proud emblem. This finely carved walnut rendition captures that same spirit of triumph and sovereignty. The sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and displays a rich, dark walnut patina enhancing its bold, sculptural presence.
