About the Item

An incredibly detailed glass aquarium with three striped fish with orange tails and fins. The multicoloured shells and coral sit at the bottom of the aquarium and shimmer from the silver and gold inclusions. Air bubbles float to the surface through the blue seaweed and red anemone. The vertical rectangular glass aquarium is supported around the base by cobalt blue waves lapping around it. Even though it's signed on the base - Glass Studio Murano and has a "MADE IN ITALY - Murano" red and gold circular foil label I don't think it is based on my research. I have therefore priced it accordingly. It is still a beautiful example of the Sommerso technique. In very good condition with no cracks. There is a tiny fleabite sized chip on the base as one or two small scratches. A beautiful decorative piece suitable for windowsills, sideboards and glass shelving especially if they're illuminated or where natural light shines through. Dimensions: Width: 21cm Depth: 10cm Height: 21cm Craftsmanship and Quality Handmade vs. Machine-Made: Murano glass is handcrafted, which results in slight irregularities, such as tiny air bubbles or asymmetrical shapes. Chinese replicas are often mass-produced by machine and tend to be more uniform and perfect. Layers of Glass: Authentic Murano creations often consist of multiple layers of hand-blown glass. Mass-produced imitations are typically made with a single, thick layer of glass.Pontil Mark: Hand-blown glass often has a pontil mark on the base, which is an indentation left when the glass blower breaks off the rod used to shape the glass. Authentic Murano pieces usually have a polished or ground pontil, while Chinese imports may have a rough, unpolished one. However, some authentic Murano pieces, especially older ones, may also have rough pontils.Colours: Murano glass is known for its vibrant, rich colors and techniques like sommerso (submerged glass) and millefiori (floral patterns). Imitations may have a flatter, duller appearance.
