About the Item

Chic set of two hand carved walnut sculptures of a galloping horse, in profile. Executed by noted American sculptor, craftsman, woodworker, Edig Hackner, of LaCrosse Wisconsin. Mr. Hackner was a German immigrant, most well known for designing and building alters and church interiors, his work is represented in churches across the USA. These pieces are in good, original condition, both have breaks at the ends on their legs, and are missing their hoofs, please see images. Circa 1920/30's these sophisticated Art Deco sculptures are reminiscent of Hagenauer. It is unusual to find work by Hackner on the market as most pieces are architectural in nature, and not available for purchase.
